HARDWARE & PLAYERS

Buy a player only where you actually need one.

Samsung and LG commercial panels need no extra hardware at all. For everything else, these are the players and displays we resell, at prices we publish.

START HERE

The top-selling player, and when you need it.

The SDA is a purpose-built set-top box with Live for Android already installed, connected to any screen over HDMI. It is built and tuned specifically to run Live for Android, which is why it is the player we recommend when a screen has no player of its own.

Work out how many you actually need before you order. Samsung Tizen and LG webOS commercial panels run Live on the display itself, so those screens need nothing. A meeting room with a PC already attached needs nothing either. What is left is the real count: ordinary displays and consumer TVs with no player behind them.

Beyond the SDA we resell displays from ProDVX, Videri and WiCharge, chosen for 24/7 commercial duty rather than showroom specs. If you are still deciding which player suits which screen, the platforms comparison is the faster read.

OS AND UPDATES

The SDA ships with Android 13 and current Android security patches, and the Live for Android player updates at the device or remotely through the CMS, so getting a screen onto the current player version does not mean sending someone to it. If your security policy sets a required patch level, send it with the order and we will confirm it against the batch going out to you.

PLAYERS WE SUPPLY

Windows players from iBASE, appliances from BrightSign. Pick by how many screens the player has to drive.

    DUAL OUTPUT

    BrightSign XT5

Two HDMI outputs and an HDMI input in one appliance, with 8K decoding. The two outputs drive a video wall through Live in extended mode. See the note below.

Runs Live for BrightSign · Price on request

    Models XT245, XT1145 and XT2145
2x HDMI out plus 1x HDMI in for live video
    8K decoding at 60p, or dual 4K at 60p
    PoE+, minus 10 to 50 degrees C, 5-year warranty

ABOUT THE XT5'S SECOND OUTPUT

The XT5's two HDMI outputs do drive a video wall through Live. Extended mode treats them as one canvas, and group mode synchronises several XT5s so a wall can be wider than the two outputs one player provides. What a multi-output player cannot do is exceed the outputs it has: the single-output XD6 drives one screen, whatever the mode.

Where Windows still wins is scale on a single machine. The iBASE SI-636 puts six panels on one canvas from one box, with no synchronisation between players to configure and more content headroom for heavy video. Tell us the panel count and what is playing on it and we will say which way round is cheaper.

Digital signage hardware: common questions

Do we need to buy hardware from LiveSign?

No. Live runs natively on Samsung Tizen and LG webOS commercial displays with no extra hardware at all, and the Windows, Android, Linux and BrightSign players run on hardware you may already own. We resell players for the cases where you need one.

What version of Live for Android does the SDA come with?

Live for Android version 3 R304 is pre-installed. You can upgrade to the latest version manually at the device, or through the CMS once the player is connected.

If I buy the SDA, do I still need an Android licence?

The SDA ships with an unlicensed Live for Android player. If you sign up to one of our plans, the Android licence is included in the plan cost. If you are not on a plan, perpetual licences are available to purchase separately.

Do you ship to my country?

Delivery is handled by our logistics partners depending on whether you are inside or outside the EU. We currently ship to more than 91 countries worldwide.

What about OS updates and security on the SDA?

The SDA ships with Android 13 and current Android security patches. The Live for Android player itself updates at the device or through the CMS, so a screen can be brought up to the current player version without anyone visiting it. If your security policy sets a specific patch level or update cadence, send it to us with your order and we will confirm against the batch you are being shipped.

Which hardware should we pick for a mixed estate?

Usually a mix. Samsung and LG commercial panels need no player at all. Ordinary screens take an SDA or another Android player. Screens that are hard to reach are better on BrightSign, and anything driving a video wall has to be Windows.
