FAQs

Why does Live for BrightSign need to be licensed?
Live for BrightSign is a closed-source, commercial product. To ensure continuous optimization, regular security patches, and dedicated platform maintenance, it requires a valid license to function.
How many licenses do I need for my BrightSign deployment?
Every BrightSign player running the Live application requires its own dedicated license. For example, if you plan to deploy 25 BrightSign units across your facility, you will need 25 licenses. Note: Our all-inclusive subscription Plans come with Live player licenses pre-bundled, meaning you don’t need to purchase them separately if you are on a Plan.
How does the BrightSign player verify its licensing status?
By default, the player will securely check in with our central licensing server over HTTP/HTTPS every 30 days. For air-gapped or high-security corporate networks, this requirement can be completely bypassed using our On-Premise Offline License Module.
Can I transfer an existing license to a new BrightSign player?
Yes. Our software licenses are not permanently locked to a single physical media player.
How does the BrightSign player know what to play and when?
The player communicates with your Live CMS over standard ports (HTTP/HTTPS). It automatically pulls down your scheduled layouts, media files, and playlists, caches them securely onto its local storage (SD card/SSD), and plays them back smoothly according to your timeline—even if it temporarily loses network connectivity.
